What is a Havurah?

How do I join?

A Havurah offers friendship, an extended family, and a great way to really get to know one another within the B'nai Shalom community. The word Havurah comes from the Hebrew word chaver, meaning "friend." Our Havurah provides its members with an opportunity for a fun night out, interesting discussions, learning new things about each other, and enjoying different types of activities that the host chooses.   This all comes about by socializing, and enjoying members, their families and friends in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

First Havurah Dinner Was a Great Success!

On Saturday Night, October 17, we had our first Havurah Dinner.  It was at the home of Naomi and Bill Stein in Vista.  Eleven people brought delicious dishes to share for the Italian dinner theme.  After dinner every person told a little bit about their background, and then described an unusual event that happened to them.  Each person in the group then had to decide if it was true or false.

Well, the stories were pretty wild, and there was much laughter and carrying on. “To Tell The Truth” was really fun!  Then for the finally they played “Bolderdash”  a very funny game in which people make up definitions to words that they do not know and then each person gets to guess which is the correct definition.  The Havurah individuals made up the craziest things and it was just hysterical!

Here are some quotes that people in the Havurah said at the end of the evening; “couldn’t have been more fun”, ”exhilarating”,  “ a real hoot”,  “wonderful to meet new people and see new faces”, and “ It didn’t help Weight Watchers, no one left hungry”.  Everyone had a great time and two people already volunteered to hold the Havurah meeting at their homes next month. With no effort at all we raised $110, ($10 per person) in donations that will go toward sponsoring B’nai Shalom boys and girls to attend Jewish Youth Camp. Please call me to reserve your spot for a great evening next month, November 21st.
